Hello, lovelies. Here is the current notes. I will finish tomorrow. We're nearly there, but this is where everything kicks off. I'll finish The Notes tomorrow and theories by this weekend. Sorry for the delay, but work has been kicking my butt this week with a new project on top of loads of trainings. ANYWAY, here's how I've laid out this blog and the edits that will be made in the future: Diary entries for each member are summarized. I did my best to capture everything, and if a detail seemed important later, I've captured it in the summary. Also, entries are categorized by members that the entry's story ties to the most. If it doesn't seem like a member is captured enough, it's probably because I haven't gotten to the meat of their story yet. Be patient. Theories for each member will similarly be laid out below the notes once I write them out. Additionally, I'll be adding screen caps from the MVs that correlate to each journal entry. As you can see this is a lot of work. Stay tuned to our twitter for more updates to the blog regarding this post. And buckle up because it's all about to kick off in the Year 22, as you can tell from Tae's Notes entries. THE NOTES
Hoseok
23 July, Year 10
Hobi is on a class field trip, counting fruit in a textbook. The counting triggers a memory of Hoseok as a young boy with his mother at an amusement park. He can’t remember her face, but she gives him a candy bar, tells him to close his eyes, and count to ten. He makes it to nine, before opening his eyes to find that she is gone.
He tries to keep counting the fruit but can’t because he’s scared if he makes it to ten, his mother will be gone forever. The not ends with, ‘Just like that, I collapsed to the ground.’
25 February, Year 21
Hobi is dancing, remembering the first time he danced at 12 years old. He says it’s the first time he actually felt like himself for the first time. His bliss was coming from within himself, and not from the applause of others.
Hobi starts thinking of all the times he smiles, even when he is unhappy. This is the cause of his addiction to taking pills and feinting no matter where he is. This is why he dances. He feels at peace watching himself dance in the mirror.
Taehyung 29 December, Year 10
Tae returns home to find his father has returned. He isn’t sure how long its been since he’s seen his father, so he runs to give him a hug. He smells alcohol, his dad curses him and slaps him. He hits him over and over and lifts him up. He can’t do anything or cry from being to scared. He kicks his father, who in turn throws him against a wall. Teahyung hits his head and passes out.
20 March, Year 20
Tae is approaching the classroom that the boys often share. Jin and Namjoon are inside talking about the principle and Tae is confused why. Then Tae hears his and Yoongi’s name, and learns that Jin is telling the principle how the two boys skipped school and fought with some kids. Namjoon is shocked. Namjoon is understanding that Jin must have a reason to tell. Tae hears Jimin and Hoseok approaching and as they enter the room, Joon and Jin stop talking and Jin awkwardly leaves. Based on Namjoon’s nonchalant reaction, Tae assumes Joon knows more about the situation. Tae decides to act normal and not mention the conversation he overheard to the others.
11 April, Year 22
Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok and Tae are at Namjoon’s trailer. Namjoon is digging through a t-shirt sale when Tae comes up and picks a Nirvana shirt similar to his own. Tae changes out of a ripped shirt, explaining to Hoseok they were late because they were caught by the police doing graffiti. Hoseok stares at Tae's back surprised. Yoongi pats Tae on the shoulder.
20 May, Year 22
Tae has blood on his hands. He is crouched on the floor, someone his hugging him from behind. His sister is crying and Hoseok is standing by without speaking. He hadn’t meant to kill his father, he wanted to kill himself. He wanted to cry, scream and break everything, but he couldn’t move. He calmly tells Hoseok to leave, a stark contrast to his frantic heart. The blood on his hands is his own from the broken bottle that ripped his palm.
Unable to think of what to do, he calls Namjoon. Over everyone, all he wanted was to be in Namjoon’s presence. ‘I want to see you now.’ 20 May, Year 22
Hobi takes Taehyung to the police station. Its not far from Tae’s house. Hobi tries to pretend nothing is wrong. Hobi thinks of the first time he saw Tae’s scars on the night Taehyung changed shirts at Namjoon’s container hideout. Part of his heart had broken. The police recommended that Tae eat on his way home, but he refuses.
‘Hoseok, it’s okay. I can go alone.’ Tae tries to convince Hoseok that he is fine, but Hobi knows he can not be. They reach the corridor to Tae’s home and go their separate ways, just as Hobi’s phone rings.
Jimin
April 6, Year 11
Jimin is at an arboretum by himself. His parents we supposed to be there, but they were busy. At the end of the picnic, the teacher asks Jimin to wait for her, but he thinks he can make it home alone. As he leaves, it begins to rain. His legs hurt and it starts to rain harder. Jimin gets lost and ends up at the back entrance of the arboretum
12 June, Year 19
The boys skip school but don’t have anywhere to go. Joon suggests going to the beach, and everyone seems happy about it. Yoongi is indifferent to the idea. They realize they don’t have money and decide to walk, but aren’t thrilled because it is far. Tae suggests they go to the Arboretum. Yoongi notices that Jimin is frozen in place, face pale, dripping with sweat. Yoongi suggests its too hot for the arboretum, but in reality he doesn’t feel right going with Jimin’s strange expression. The boys decide they will skip dinner and go to the beach via train, which is in the opposite direction. It is not until they decide to walk further from the arboretum that Jimin begins walking again.
30 August, Year 19
Jimin and Hoseok are walking home from school. Jimin has just transfer to the same school, something that he does often, and Hoseok was his first friend. The walk home takes 2 hours and they walk together. Jimin later finds out that Hoseok doesn’t even live in the same direction. This note talks about the boys joking around and playing but then suddenly Jimin gets scared as he doesn’t know how long these days will last. (Presumably because he is constantly being transferred to new schools.)
15 September, Year 20
Hobi is in the hospital with Jimin and his mom. He feels like he should explain that Jimin had a seizure at the bus stop, but he doesn’t know how to do so under the scrutinizing gaze of Jimin’s mother. After a silence, Jimin’s mother says thank you. The doctors come to move the bed and Hoseok tries to follow. Jimin’s mother stops him. Hobi takes a step back and feels dizzy, then falls to the floor. Jimin’s mother does not help him up. When he next looks up, Jimin’s bed is gone and Jimin never returned back to school.
28 September, Year 20
Jimin has been hospitalized. He is staring out the window thinking the trees look like a colorful painting. He has not been counting days and doesn’t know how much time has passed due to the medication. He feels boring and dull. Still, he feels like today is a special day. It is the first time he has lied, telling the doctor, ‘I don’t remember a thing.’
19 May, Year 22
Jimin decides to go to the arboretum. He wants to stop having seizures, going to the hospital and give up the lies. Deciding that, he waits at the bus stop. Suddenly, Yoongi plops down after three buses have come and gone. He says he has nothing to do, and that’s why he’s there. Jimin can’t get up the courage to leave. He was afraid of what he would run into and if he’s be able to bear it. What if he had another seizure. Another bus arrives and Jimin asks Yoongi to join.
Yoongi
19 September, Year 16
Yoongi’s house is on fire. There is no way for the fire department to access it. Yoongi remembers his mother is inside, but just as he thinks this, the house collapses, turning into rubble. His neighbors and the fire department ask if someone is inside. He can’t answer, so they ask again, ‘Is your mother inside?’ He answers no, nobody is inside. Everyone is confused, asking where she is. He continues insisting no one is inside.
25 June, Year 20
Yoongi comes home angry, and takes an envelope out of his desk. Inside is a burned piano key inside. Yoongi recalls returning to his old home and going into his mothers room. He sees the old piano burned beyond recognition and falls to the ground. In the sunlight he sees the keys and thinks of how many times he heard his mother play. He puts a key in his pocket and leaves.
It’s been four years since the fire and Yoongi’s house is always silent. The note reveals his dad is quiet and strict. He is forced to follow a strict time table. He muses about one day running away and leaving his father to live on his own. Yoongi takes the key and goes to the window. He opens it and throws the key as hard as he can out the window and vows to never play the piano again.
7 April, Year 22
Yoongi is walking drunkenly and hears a familiar tune on a piano. The tune is more clumsy than when he plays. He closes his eyes and continues walking. Suddenly, he hears a car and opens his eyes to find a car narrowly skirting past him. In all the confusion, Yoongi realizes he can’t hear the piano anymore. Why did it stop? Who was playing?
He stares off into a barrel nearby that someone lit a fire. He suddenly hears someone’s fist hitting the piano keys. The fire mixed with the sound of the piano reminds him of his past. Suddenly, he begins to run away to a music store nearby. The window was broken and someone was sitting playing the piano. Yoongi realizes he knows the person play. They are crying, their hands clenched in fists. Yoongi doesn’t want to be someone’s comfort. He doesn’t think he is good enough for someone to rely on him. He doesn’t want to be significant to someone else, but he walks over to Jungkook. It’s the first time they’ve seen each other since Yoongi dropped out of school.
2 May, Year 22
Jungkook is asleep in Namjoon’s container. Jungkook is shaking and feels like he wants to cry, but he’s too weak. Kookie remembers his dream (I think it’s a dream. If it isn’t this next part doesn’t make any sense.)
Jungkook enters the room to find a trail of sheets set on fire. Yoongi is standing on the bed. Kook is angry and scared, but can’t think of what to say. He runs into the blaze yelling, “We said we’d all go to the sea together!’
Namjoon shakes his shoulder, ‘Did you have a nightmare?’ Kook is running a fever, his head aches and his throat hurts. He could barely stomach the medicine Namjoon gave him. ‘Can I be an adult like you?’ He asks Namjoon.
Seokjin
2 March, Year 19
Seokjin has just returned from America and has to start a year lower in school. Jin’s father is speaking to the principle and Jin flinches when his father puts his hand on his shoulder. The principle asks Jin a question and his father’s grip tightens so hard it feels like Jin’s bones will shatter. He says what the two adults want to hear and they laugh as his father releases his shoulder. Jin can only look at the floor.
July 17, Year 20
It’s the last day of school, and Jin wants to sneak out quickly but Jimin and Hobi catch him. He is in poor spirits because he is thinking of how he told the principle of the hideout on the day Yoongi and Jungkook we caught by the teacher. The principle threatened to tell his father he was not a good student, and thinking no one would be in the classroom, Jin decided to give up their hiding place. As a result, Jin blames himself for getting Yoongi expelled. As he’s leaving on the last day, he remembers the day they were all late and got detention together, beginning their friendship. Jin blames himself for ruining them.
11 April, Year 22
Jin is alone at the beach taking photos. He is remembering how things has changed from 2 years and 10 months ago. They were exhausted , but hey had each other.
11 April, Year 22
Jin knows what he has to do, but he is afraid. Could he truly end the misfortune? Don’t repeated failures mean there could be no success? Isn’t their happiness a vain hope? Should he give up?
Without realizing, Jin reaches the petrol station and sees Namjoon working. ‘I can not give p. These is a 1% chance and I cannot give up.’
Namjoon
15 May, Year 20
It is Joon’s last day of school. He is moving. He enters the classroom and leaves a note saying ‘You must survive.’ He thinks about all the things going on in his life: poverty, parents, friends, and moving. He crumbles up the paper and goes to the window. He fogs up the window and writes ‘We will meet again.’ He doesn’t feel like its enough, but they will understand. He leaves hoping this promise can be kept between them.
17 December, Year 21
Namjoon is waiting in the cold for a bus in from the country. He makes a vow to himself never to look back. He is running away from things: his mother’s tired face, his wandering sibling, and his father’s illness. He was tired of pretending he knew nothing of the chaos happening and was tired of the forced sacrifice and tranquility. Most of all he was running from the poverty.
The bus arrives to the stop hours later to the town he left a year ago leaving no note behind. He can barely remember his friends faces. He had cut off all ties from him. On top of the frost on the window he writes, ‘I have to survive.”
11 April, Year 22
Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok and Tae are at Namjoon’s trailor.
Jungkook
25 June, Year 20
Jungkook is playing the piano, but it doesn’t sound like when Yoongi plays. Yoongi hasn’t been at school for 10 days and they learned that he has been expelled. Jungkook thinks back to two weeks prior when he and Yoongi were in the classroom alone. Jungkook laid across the desks to nap as Yoongi played the piano. It always made Kookie feel like he was going to cry. The door to the classroom opens and Jungkook is hit so hard he falls to the ground. The teacher is yelling at him, but it suddenly stops and Jungkook realizes that Yoongi has punched the teacher. Jungkook is filled with guilt as he strums the piano keys, thinking that it if weren’t for him, Yoongi would not have been expelled.
30 September, Year 20
Jungkook is going back to the classroom. He has been every day since they found it. Sometimes, no one else would show up, but he never missed a single day, because one day his friends were bound to show up. When he arrives, Hoseok is packing their things away. This is when Jungkook realizes those days are gone and will not be coming back.
11 April, Year 22
Jungkook picks a fight with thugs and is beaten up, laughing as they beat him. This causes them to beat him harder. Jungkook purposefully makes himself cry. He is as the top of a construction site, eyes closed thinking of his family: his stepfather, his step brother kicking him, his mother standing by helplessly. He raises his arms for balance and in that moment stumbles, nearly falling.
He could easily take a step and die. Would death bring an end to anything? Would anyone be sad if he wasn’t around?
